The focus for the project was on creating a precinct that can be used by multiple user groups simultaneously, with a balance between competitive training and community use.
The project is comprised of a new pavilion, to replace the old clubrooms, and a sporting facilities upgrade that included resurfacing the existing playing fields, upgrading the Little Athletics facilities and a new fitness track with outdoor exercise equipment. The entire reserve was also redeveloped, with extensive tree management undertaken, along with new landscaping to rejuvenate and enhance the quality of the outdoor recreation space.
The structure included a curved roof which allows all sporting balls to roll directly off and creates a generous veranda that wraps around the entire pavilion. The building contains change rooms, storage facilities, a commercial kitchen, sports bar, kiosk and administration facilities.
Construction of a new public plaza overlooks all playing fields and links the pavilion with a state-of-the-art playground and BBQ facilities. The large, paved public plaza was designed so local markets can also operate on weekends. The playground provides a secure area for children to play, with adjacent BBQ facilities supporting informal family gatherings. The commercial kitchen allows the pavilion to be rented for private functions and facilitates community events.
The project was constructed over multiple stages due to the locations of existing buildings and services.
