Mossop Construction + Interiors ‘Generational Change’ as Founder and Long-Term Managing Director Neil Mossop Announces Retirement

15/10/24

We are excited to share important news about a major leadership transition as Neil Mossop, founder and long-serving Managing Director, announces his retirement. Neil, along with brothers Ray and John Mossop, has led our family-owned construction company since he and wife Christine established it 45 years ago.

Mossop Construction + Interiors was established with the mission to provide the building and property industry with a dedicated, fair, and reliable construction and specialist interiors contractor. Along with brothers Ray and John, Neil has led our business which has grown to be one of South Australia's leading construction companies.

"The test of any Managing Director is to leave the business in better shape than when they started. On that simple metric, history will judge Neil to have been one of Mossop’s finest leaders”.

“As I look back on my professional journey, I am filled with immense gratitude for the experiences and relationships I’ve built over the years. Establishing and leading Mossop Constructions + Interiors alongside my brothers Ray and John has been one of the most rewarding adventures of my life. Together, we’ve navigated challenges, celebrated successes, and created unforgettable memories that I will always treasure.

Inspired by my father's achievements in the construction industry, I approached him with a vision to start my own building company. After many discussions around the kitchen table, he agreed to invest $4,000 to help launch the business, famously saying, “If we make a success of the $4,000, we’ll have a business; lose it, and you’ll need to find a job.” Fast forward 45 years, and that initial investment has transformed into a thriving business.

One of my greatest joys has been witnessing Mossop’s remarkable growth—from a small factory in Wingfield to an office and factory in Regency Park, and now to the church on Port Road, along with a regional office in Mount Gambier. We’ve evolved from small fitout projects and joinery work to delivering $150 million projects across South Australia. It’s impossible for me not to reflect on the fantastic projects that have defined our legacy. We’ve completed remarkable work that has not only showcased skill but also earned us recognition as the Master Builders Commercial Builder of the Year in 2012, 2015, and 2018.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our valued clients, subcontractors, and suppliers for your continued support and a special thank you to the talented teams I’ve had the privilege to lead and collaborate with over the years; this success would not have been possible without you.

As I prepare to embark on this new chapter of retirement, I reflect on how far we’ve come in the industry and how proud I am to have shared this incredible journey with you all”. – Neil Mossop

As Neil prepares to step down and join brothers Ray and John in retirement, we are pleased to announce the next generation of leaders who will be stepping up to continue our family’s legacy. Family members Grant Mossop, Aaron Mossop and Lynda Simon will take on the roles of joint Managing Directors alongside our long-time General Manager, Stephen Prosser. Together, they will steer the future vision and objectives of both our company and the Mossop family. Each of them brings nearly 25 years of industry experience, while Stephen has been with Mossop for over 40 years. With their enthusiasm and fresh ideas, we believe they will grow our company further and guide our family business towards continued success.

“We have the utmost admiration for the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of our fathers. Despite the remarkable growth of our company throughout the years, they have effectively preserved our family's rich heritage and propelled Mossop Construction + Interiors to the forefront of the construction industry. We fully comprehend the weight of the responsibility that rests upon our shoulders to carry on their legacy, and we are eager to guide our family business towards a thriving new chapter. Our family and our business are sources of great pride for us, and we are committed to maintaining the exceptional standards established by our fathers. While the journey ahead may present challenges, we are prepared to step into their formidable shoes and leave our own mark on the industry." Grant Mossop, Aaron Mossop, Lynda Simon

This exciting leadership transition officially commenced on October 4, 2024, with Neil, John, and Ray retaining their positions on the board.

We are confident that with the new leadership team in place, Mossop Construction + Interiors will continue to thrive and uphold the values and standards that have been instilled by our family for nearly half a century. We are grateful for Neil's dedication and leadership over the many years, and we wish him a happy and fulfilling retirement. Please join us in congratulating Grant, Aaron, and Lynda as they take on their new roles and work with Stephen to lead us into the future.

We thank you for being a part of our journey and for your continued support as we move through this exciting phase of change.
