Construction of a new hospital wing, comprising a 3 storey 200 space underground carpark, staff gym, new state-of-the-art surgical suites comprising procedure rooms, angiography suites and theatres together with a 35 bed recovery facility, fully internalised plant and equipment floor and a ward floor with 28 single occupancy cardiac suites with an outdoor courtyard deck. The project also includes integration of the new wing with the existing hospital, involving conversion of some older bedrooms into new patient reception areas as well as sterile thoroughfares between new and existing surgical suites.
Although the basement ring wall was achieved using an innovative diaphragm wall technique, the structural design for this project was of traditional reinforced concrete construction in the basement, post - tensioned reinforced concrete for the majority of floors above ground level, steel frame internally to form a service mezzanine and medical equipment control room above the surgical suites and with a steel framed top floor and roof.
Architectural finishes complement and integrate the new wing with existing buildings in colour & texture, with terracotta tile finishes on the main body of the building complementing local brick finishes and profiled charcoal zinc sheet for the Level 3 bedroom suites complementing slate roofing of nearby heritage buildings.
