This project involved construction of an iconic multi storey building named after one of Australia's leading public intellectuals, Professor Hugh Stretton. The environmentally friendly building provides functional and flexible spaces which enable new ways of learning, training, networking, innovation and project development, facilitating practical actions and outcome in urban, industry and workforce development in Adelaide's north.
The project involved creating a complex and striking building with state-of-the-art facilities including a community centre, the Stretton Research Centre, a public library, training facilities and a cafe. The footprint features a series of offset geometrical shapes with the internal space dominated by a structurally significant, spiral staircase. It's also a great showcase for effective urban design, sustainable building design and best-practice energy storage and management. Designed to high architectural standards, the Stretton Centre is an uplifting and inspiring space with a strong civic presence. The centre is a beacon for the local area, attracting positive attention to the community.
The project was delivered on time and officially opened its doors in May 2015.
