The Thebarton Aquatic Centre located within the Thebarton Senior College site is the only public swimming pool in the West Torrens Council area and is a key community asset.

Working in collaboration with clients DfE and DIT, Mossop were engaged to deliver urgent remediation works to the 25m indoor lap pool, 12.5m learners pool, 12.5m hydrotherapy pool due to their extensive deterioration and carry out necessary remediation works to the existing structural steel due to significant corrosion.

In addition, the facility underwent significant refurbishment with the demolition and rebuild of the plant rooms, classrooms, first aid office and change rooms. Minor refurbishment works were carried out to the foyer, reception and administration buildings.

Mossop developed an accelerated program which included an ECI Phase (Early Works) and Construction phase to achieve the project’s challenging, nominated Practical Completion (PC) date. Tom Koutsantonis MP, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport commended the team with meeting the project’s PC date and delivering the project within budget.

Several value-add options relating to remediation versus reconstruction were implemented, offering the clients significant cost and time savings without comprising on quality outcomes. One of which was the design of a PVC liner to the existing 25m pool following minor make-good works to some pool tiles to increase its longevity, performance and aesthetics instead of a complete rebuilt.

Existing hobs around the main pool were removed and replaced with wet deck, which was achieved with close consultant collaboration. It brought the facility in line with modern standards and provided versatility by enabling the more senior patrons the ability to get out of the pool easier.
